Statement Following Yesterday's Incident (29/07/2024)
We are in shock that such a horrific attack could take place on our beloved children in our normally happy and safe, seaside town.
We cannot express the depth of our sadness, in words, for the victims and young casualties of this horrendous and evil incident, nor imagine the extent of the pain that the families and loved ones are going through.
With our thoughts and love.

September 2023 update:
We have had a great return to lessons in September and many received music exam results back from the Summer. (Everyone passed!) One of our adult learners even got full marks ( distinction) for her first theory exam! We have also taken a lot of newcomers to lessons. Our team of 20 teachers work hard to accommodate everyone and we would like to welcome all to The Academy.
We continue to be involved in the community however we can:
In September, one of our teaching team, the talented Joe Bloom, was honoured to play for Princess Anne at the Monument ten year anniversary ceremony.
Another of our team, Jon Taylor, also is now the resident pianist at the prestigious Grand Hotel on Lord Street . You can hear him play there every Sunday afternoon.
One of our talented students, Joshua Gadsby, is also preparing with us for his entry to Cheetham's music school (full time) with piano as his first instrument and voice as second, and training with our highly qualified and experienced vocal coach, Stewart Hankinson.
We are now preparing for our Christmas concert which will take place at Lord Street West church on the 2nd of December.

10th Anniversary Concert Press Release

May 2023 update:
Dear parents & students

The summer is almost upon us and we are so excited that we are getting ready to present our summer showcase concert on July the 9th to celebrate ten years of The Academy!

The Mayor of Sefton, our MP and the chairman of The Southport Music Festival will all be in attendance. We will be using The Bijou cinema for the showcase as we will be sharing some videos of our journey and growth as a music academy, alongside live student and teacher performances.

The show will incorporate two new areas- dance and drama as these will be part of our summer workshops due to take place in August.

We have other events we are participating in also including performances in Sandpipers and St Patrick’s summer fair.

We have had a great term of exams with Abrsm which included a distinction for Joshua Gadsby at Grade 4 and a merit for Shane Fonseka at Grade 5.

January 2023 update:

Firstly , happy new year to all our families and students!
Congratulations to all who took part in our two winter concerts.
We had a beginners concert and an advanced one. The standard was amazing and we raised £500 for 'Music For Dementia'.

Our piano course book is almost ready to be published throughout the UK so other teachers and music schools can try out our fun and successful methods.

We have already had some exams this year and had results of merits in grade 5.
In order to manage the demand for lessons we have also taken on more talented staff for the team.

We continue to work closely with our local community to bring music into the forefront and in keeping with this our teachers have performed many places locally, including The Grand - as regular pianists, various functions over Christmas.
Next month one of our teachers will be playing piano in a local restaurant for Valentines night.

We are working towards our showcase summer concert as we endeavour to find a worthy local charity to raise for.
If you would like to put one forward please tag or comment and share.

Winter Term 2022 update:

Dear parents & students
We hope you have had a great autumn term. We have been very busy booking and scheduling in new pupils:
In September we had a students sponsored practice in aid of a local Southport lady for urgent cancer treatment overseas. The students worked so hard and managed to raise £350!!

In October we took part in the Southport Music Festival at Greenbank High School. Our students were awarded four First places in piano solos- under 12s, 14s and 16 and one of teachers,Joe Bloom, won overall with a £250 cash prize for his piano composition.

This was an amazing start to our term following our performance in the new, prestigious ‘Grand’ on Lord Street for our local MP. We were also in the papers for our end of year finale summer concert, which was a musical variety show in aid of Churchtown Botanic Gardens which raised £800, making our charity raising total now £14k!
We are now preparing for our winter concert, which will be in aid of our music therapy department, reaching out to dementia in the community and music for special needs.
As always, our A.B.R.S.M performance exams continue this year with MERITS and some DISTINCTIONS awarded.
Our studio in Churchtown is fully operating with many lessons taking place there, including piano, singing and drums.
Our teaching team continues to grow with 20 teachers now offering ukelele, mobile guitar, cornet, trumpet, violin, beatboxing, jazz piano and saxophone as new instruments this year. Our other 200+ weekly lessons are at our teachers’ home music studios or mobile; travelling to students’ homes.
We are continuing to expand as we gradually morph into Southport ‘Music’ Academy, rather than just ‘Piano’ Academy.
Last year we launched a dementia music school in conjunction with local care homes. We will be performing in dementia home Abbey Lodge in Sept 2022.
Additionally, the exclusive Southport Piano Academy Music music course book is almost complete. The course is an excellent beginners piano book like nothing else available, incorporating original music, modern ideas and traditional songs with a contemporary twist, appealing to the whole family in a very thorough, systemic learning style.
